Vital Stats

I've been in Dhaka for four days now. Here are the numbers:

Number of times I've said "jol" instead of "pani" ( the word for "water" which immediately identifies you as a Hindu in a majority Muslim country): 14

Percentage of meals that have consisted mainly of rice: 90%

Bowling score at "Fu Wang Club," a western bar/dance club/bowling alley/pool hall owned by my friend Arif's parents: 24

Number of times visited trendy tourist-oriented Aarong shop: 1

Number of Canadians encountered: "aboot" 4

Alcoholic beverages consumed (note that Bangladesh, being an Islamic society, is dry): 2

Number of times spoken to mother in US: 5

Mosquito bites: 19

Rickshaws ridden in (the bicycle variety): 8

Number of times the guy at the US embassy used the word "terrorist" during our security briefing: 9
