The Burbs

We discussed the cultural, social, political and economic history of American suburbs in one of my classes last week (Dolores Hayden's book Building Suburbia). Our first exercise involved depicting what we envisioned when we thought about "the suburbs." This was my somewhat indignant depiction of Detroit and the surrounding "planned communities." Notice the logos of the "Big Three" car companies floating along the horizon.
