a little perspective

Today my friend Anh from Vietnam showed me a picture of his 2-month old baby son, born in mid-December. The child was so beautiful---big and healthy with inquisitive almond eyes, tiny, smiling pink lips and a full head of black hair. I saw the picture and suddenly had tears in my eyes. Maybe it was because I know Anh has never met his son. He made the very difficult decision of leaving his country for graduate studies even after he and his wife learned she was pregnant. He keeps counting down the days until he can be with his small new family. "May 15th!" he shouted in the computer lab today.

It amazes me the things parents do for their children.
