Mirror, Mirror: A Poem

*This poem always makes me cry---it resonates with me so much as a hyphenated-American

People keep asking me were I come from
says my son.

Trouble is I'm american on the inside
and oriental on the outside

No Doug
Turn that outside in
THIS is what American looks like.

by Japanese-American Mitsutye Yamada, an internment camp survivor
